If you are an undergraduate and have accepted a career-related internship or co-op during Summer 2009, consider taking ENG 451: Success in the Workplace (formerly ENG 398 SW). This online course is offered during the summer and provides 2 hours of credit.
ENG 451 is a guided experiential learning course designed to prepare you for a successful transition from campus to the workplace. Lecture topics covered include basic business concepts and insights related to interpersonal and communication skills. Over the course of the summer, you will complete a project that will lead you to develop the skills that are covered in the course lectures.
Each week, students view streaming video lectures and submit a written assignment. Grades will be determined by answers to questions based on the lectures (50%) and evaluation of the written project assignments (50%).
Section SW1 (CRN 35144) is for Illinois students and section SW2 (CRN 35145) is for non-Illinois students. You must have accepted a career-related summer internship or co-op to enroll in the course. Registration for the course will take place during regular summer/fall registration for Illinois students. For non-Illinois students, online registration begins in early April. Companies interested in paying tuition directly can visit the Company Billing section of the Engineering and Computer Science Online Web site. During Summer 2009, the cost of the course is $964 for Illinois students and $1,706 for non-Illinois students, and the course will take place from June 1 through July 24, 2009.
