Week of June 29
ConvoPartner volunteers help Intensive English Institute students practice English and learn more about life in the U.S. Most of the IEI students are from Asia, but our diverse enrollment also includes students from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America.
What does a ConvoPartner do?
- Meet with a group of 2-3 IEI students for 1 hour every week for English conversation/social activities. The SU09 program will run for 7 weeks, from June 23-August 4. The FA09 program will run for 12 weeks, from September 8-December 8.
- Email the IEI Convo Partner Coordinator, Megan Ficek (at convopartners@ad.uiuc.edu), each week to confirm that you met with the international students.
- Attend some of the all-IEI social activities. These events are, of course, optional, but the students love it when their conversation partners can attend!
How do I join?
- U of I students and non-students are welcome to participate as Convo Partners. Volunteers must be fluent speakers of English. Questions? Know anyone else interested? Email Megan, convopartners@ad.uiuc.edu. You can sign up for summer and/or fall semester at http://www.iei.uiuc.edu/ConvoPartners.htm
Interested in becoming more active in iFoundry's work to help engineering education? iFoundry is preparing to welcome 100 students into its entering class in Fall 2009. We welcome all current student leaders in the college to come on board and actively help lead this initiative. For more information, and assistance with questions, please contact Associate Director Karen Hyman, kkhyman@illinois.edu, 217/244-3824 (office) and go to the website http://ifoundry.illinois.edu
