On February 11, 2010, The Illinois Foundry for Innovation in Engineering Education (iFoundry) will host a book talk with Charles H. House and Raymond L. Price, co-authors of the recently released book, The HP Phenomenon: Innovation and Business Transformation (Stanford University Press 2009).

At-home diagnostic tests--things like cholesterol tests, pregnancy tests and blood-glucose monitors--are readily available at pharmacies around the world. But  Rashid Bashir sees the possibility for a wider variety for at-home diagnostic tests, moving technologies only in labs to be available at home.

Four alumni from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) traveled to Spain at New Year’s for two events that celebrated international exchange, engineering, athleticism, and the University of Illinois.

Two Engineering at Illinois graduate students--Laura M. Fierce and Maren L. Somers--were among those honored last week for outstanding individual and group outreach efforts with the 2010 Campus Awards for Excellence in Public Engagement.

A new study analyzing the impact of hand-held cell phone legislation on driving safety concludes that usage-ban laws had more of an impact in densely populated urban areas with a higher number of licensed drivers than in rural areas where there are fewer licensed drivers, according to a University of Illinois researcher.

Morton N. Lane has been appointed as director of the new Master of Science in Financial Engineering Program (MSFE), a joint program of the Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering in the College of Engineering and the Department of Finance in the College of Business at Illinois.

Engineering at Illinois is #1 on "The Most-Cited Institutions in Engineering, 1999-2009" list of institutions with the highest total citations to their research papers published in Thomson Reuters-indexed engineering journals from January 1, 1999 to October 31, 2009.

Bruce A. Conway, a professor of aerospace engineering (AE), is the 2009 recipient of the Dirk Brouwer Award, presented by the Space Flight Mechanics Committee of the American Astronautical Society (AAS).
