The University of Illinois is a large campus but you will find it easy to settle in, fit in, and make lifelong friends. When you apply to Engineering at Illinois, you will choose a home department. For many students, their home department becomes their core community.

But every students is also involved in programs, organizations and activities in the College of Engineering, which is another community. The university is yet another community—on this Big Ten university campus, you will find hundreds of class options, more than 1,000 student organizations, and world-class sports and entertainment. As a student in Engineering at Illinois, you can participate in:

Illinois Engineering First-Year Experience (IEFX) is a college-wide program that aims to enhance first-year students’ collegiate experience. Unique to other first-year programs, IEFX focuses on students’ interests and aspirations and interweaves them throughout their engineering education. This includes customized project-based courses, increasing faculty and corporate involvement with first-year students, academic and leadership development workshops, events, and more. The program builds a foundation on which students can create an undergraduate life that is rich in the joys of engineering, learning, and community.
