College of Engineering Spring 2009 Graduation Ceremony

The College of Engineering Spring Graduation Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall. This ceremony will follow the campuswide commencement ceremony held at 2:00 p.m.

Guest tickets are not required for the May Engineering Commencement.

You are eligible to participate in the Convocation ceremony if you have graduated since May 2008 or expect to finish your degree requirements in May 2009. If you have 13 or fewer hours remaining for BS degrees and 8 or fewer hours remaining for MS degrees and expect to complete your bachelor's or master's degree requirements in August 2009, you may participate in Convocation; however your name will not appear in the campuswide Commencement Program. Recipients of doctoral degrees must have deposited their dissertations in the Graduate College Thesis Office by May 8 in order to participate in the Convocation ceremony.

The ceremony will conclude at approximately 6:00 p.m. Each participant's name is read as they cross the stage, shake hands with their department head and the Dean, and receive a diploma cover. PhD candidates should be aware that the hooding ceremony occurs only at the campuswide ceremony.

Registration is required. Sign up for the ceremony so we know how many students will be participating. Please go to the following website to sign up: https://engineering.uiuc.edu/attend_commencement . You may sign up between March 16 and May 1.

There will be a photographer at the Engineering Commencement to take pictures of the graduates as they receive their diploma covers. When you sign up for the ceremony, please indicate whether or not you would like to have a free photo proof from commencement sent to you.

Caps and gowns are required attire. Participating graduates must place an online order by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 20 at http://www.herffjones.com/illinois. If you are unable to order via the website, you may order regalia by being measured in the Authors Corner, Illini Union Bookstore.

Measurement dates are:

•  Wednesday, April 1, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
•  Tuesday, April 7, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
•  Monday, April 20, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

If you are unsure of your graduation plans at this time, but are considering participating in either the campuswide ceremony or the College of Engineering ceremony, please place an order. You will not be charged the rental fee if the regalia is not picked up during the distribution period.

Graduates who miss the April 20 deadline may possibly obtain academic regalia during distribution at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) Multipurpose Room #6. Herff Jones will do its best to accommodate late orders on site, but it cannot guarantee custom rental regalia for orders placed after April 21. Graduates may be required to return to distribution at a later time if the inventory on hand cannot accommodate their order. All late orders will be charged a $20 late fee.

Pick up your regalia at the ARC, Multipurpose Room #6:

•  Thursday, May, 14 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
