Transfer Students - ECE

Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering curricular changes
In our continuing effort to maintain the best, most current, curricula in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, we have recently revised our curricula for both majors.

Note that the following are changes to the requirements for earning the B.S. degree, but none of these courses are required for transfer admission.

For Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering students who either (a) started college in Fall 2006 or later or (b) plan to transfer in Fall 2008 or later, the degree requirements have been changed as follows.

  1. Math 385, Differential Equations (3 hours) has been replaced with Math 386, Intro to Differential Equations Plus (4 hours). Students with credit that articulates for Math 385 may take an additional course to complete the differential equations requirement, either:
    1. ECE 493/Math 487, Advanced Engineering Math (covers elements of vector Calculus, linear algebra and complex variables) or
    2. Math 415, Linear Algebra.
  2. ECE 190, Introduction to Computing Systems, is a new computer class which replaces CS 125, Introduction to Computer Science in both majors.  It has more computer engineering and less emphasis on programming.  A programming class at the community college level would be useful preparation for this class, and is encouraged, though not required.
  3. The technical elective requirements for both Electrical Engineering and for Computer Engineering have been simplified.  For example, the Basic Science requirement has been eliminated from both the majors.
  4. Math 415, Linear Algebra, is no longer required for Computer Engineering.
