Updated Math Requirements

The University of Illinois Calculus sequence has been updated. Calculus 1 transfer course articulations have not been affected. Calculus 2 transfer course articulations were automatically updated to articulate to MATH 231 at the University of Illinois (formerly MATH 230).  MATH 231 meets the Calculus 2 requirement for the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois.

Calc 3 MATH 241 (formerly MATH 242)
The Math department at the University of Illinois has updated the content taught at the Calculus 3 level. The former University of Illinois course was MATH 242 (3 credit hours). Currently, the University of Illinois course is MATH 241 (4 credit hours).

The College of Engineering has allowed transfer courses that were formerly articulated to MATH 242 count as MATH 241 if the source course at other institutions was taken by the student during Summer 2007 or before. As of Fall 2007, Calculus 3 courses at other institutions with no change to match the new University of Illinois Calculus 3 course will articulate to a course called UQI2--at the University of Illinois. The course UQI 2--does not meet the Calculus 3 requirement for the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois.

Alternatively, Calculus 3 courses at other institutions with no change to match the new University of Illinois Calculus 3 course may articulate to MATH 24- at the University of Illinois. This course also does not satisfy the calculus 3 requirement for the College of Engineering. However, you are encouraged to take MATH 292 as a supplement to the topics you lack. Students with credit for MATH 24- and MATH 292 would receive credit for Math 241.

If your college or university would like to submit a revised Calculus 3 course to the University of Illinois for review, you may send the detailed syllabus and other supporting documents to Clark Niepert at 901 West Illinois St., Urbana, IL 61801
