Sidney D. Drell

Dr. Drell has developed a major training center for theoretical physicists in the United States and has personally made many significant contributions especially to our understanding of the fundamental interactions of elementary particles. He has given a great deal of his time in the national interest beginning in 1960 in the Office of Science and Technology, Executive Office of the President. He was a member of the President's Science Advisory Committee under both Presidents Johnson and Nixon as a consultant to the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.
Dr. Drell was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1969, is a fellow of the American Physical Society, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow and a Loeb Lecturer at Harvard University.
