BS, Mechanical Engineering, 1938
In 1938, Carroll H. Dunn began his 35-year engineering career with the U.S. Army, leading him to the second highest command in the Army Corps of Engineers. When he retired in 1973 as a highly decorated lieutenant general, he had supervised such projects as the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston and the Arkansas River Improvement Project, and had served as director of the Defense Nuclear Agency.
For eight years at Consolidated Edison, he was responsible for upgrading and expanding the power generation for the New York City metropolitan area and for conducting a multimillion dollar study of the impact of power plants on the fish ecology of the Hudson River. After retiring from Consolidated Edison in 1981, General Dunn agreed to direct a project sponsored by the Business Roundtable, an organization of chief executive officers of 200 major corporations, to study construction industry cost effectiveness. He now heads a team of 50, who make recommendations to the industry on how to improve productivity.
