To John Seth Laughlin, radiation biophysicist, for his many significant contributions to radiation therapy and to techniques for medical diagnosis.

In 1951, Dr. Laughlin became Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiation Physics at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine in Chicago. He joined the Division of Biophysics of the Sloan-Kettering Institute in 1952 and is now professor and chief of the Division of Physics and Biophysics.

Not only has Dr. Laughlin been a leader in the field of radiation therapy, but he and his group have been instrumental in developing computerized approaches to dosimetry, both for external radiations and for radioactive implants. He has also been a leader of a group of scientists that has conducted versatile investigations in radiobiology and dosimetry, and he was instrumental in the application of many scanning techniques to medical diagnosis.
