Mr. Reed joined Commonwealth Edison in 1960 and has served as assistant vice president for nuclear licensing, manager of the station nuclear engineering department, and held engineering positions at Fish Generating Station and Dresden Nuclear Power Station. In his post as vice president, to which he was named in 1979, he has responsibility for all of Commonwealth Edison’s nuclear activities in Illinois, including the operation of three nuclear stations, the nuclear engineering department, and nuclear licensing and nuclear fuel activities.
Mr. Reed is a member of the American Nuclear Society, Western Society of Engineers, the American Association of Blacks in Energy, and the Economic Club of Chicago. He is president of the Board of Trustees of the Abraham Lincoln Centre and a director of the Illinois Junior Engineering Technical Society. Mr. Reed has been featured in the U.S. Department of Energy booklet “Black Contributors to Science and Energy Technology.” He is also a member of the Center for Educational Affairs Advisory Committee for Argonne National Laboratory and the Board of Overseers of the Armour College of Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Research and Development Industrial Advisory Board of the UIUC College of Engineering.
