University of Illinois alums make Forbes 2018 30 Under 30 list

Four University of Illinois alumni have made the Forbes 2018 30 Under 30 list. Ritu Raman, Vinay Hiremath, Jordan Buckner and Matt Meyer are among the 600 young notables who represent 20 different industries on the annual list, now in its seventh year. 

Here is some background to the Illinois alums whose achievements are in the national spotlight:

Ritu Raman, (M.S., Ph.D, MechSE ’16), earned a spot in the Science category. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where her focus is on the dynamic interactions between biological and synthetic materials. Forbes describes her work as “applying new materials and technologies, like 3-D bio-printers, to build muscle-powered robots.”  Raman was a Graduate Research Fellow at Illinois from 2012 until 2016.  

Vinay Hiremath, (B.S. CS ’12), earned a place in the Enterprise Technology category as a co-founder of Loom. Forbes describes the company as a “video communication platform which enables teams to quickly record, edit and share complex information.” The company includes co-founders Shahed Khan and Joe Thomas. While Hiremath attended Illinois, he worked as a lab assistant at Margolis Market Information Lab (MIL) at the College of Business.

Jordan Buckner, (M.B.A., Architecture ’14), on the Food & Drink list, is founder of TeaSquares. The company makes tea-infused, energy snacks to keep its customers healthy and awake. No artificial ingredients are used, relying on naturally occurring caffeine from its organically-grown tea instead. TeaSquares proclaims a simple purpose on its website: “to give you the energy to get it done.”

Matt Meyer (B.A.S.) is in the Music category and is an agent for Paradigm Talent Agency. The company, which was recently named “top agency” at Billboard’s Touring Awards, has given Meyer the chance to make a name for in the music industry. He has represented artists like Halsey, Krewella, Steve Angello and Cash Cash.
