|Tunneling in Soil and Rock||TSO||59149||ONL||4||-||Youssef M A Hashash|
This course covers soil and rock properties and their relation to tunnel ground behavior. Early methods and tunnels are examined, and modern tunneling techniques are introduced. Students examine the proper approach to tunnel projects, including exploration, design, and contracting practices including geotechnical baseline reports and risk registers. The course will include guest lectures by leading experts in the field (http://cee.illinois.edu/ceeonline/cee598TSR).
Undergraduate degree in engineering or science and a course in Structural Dynamics (such as CEE 472) and Soil Mechanics and Behavior (such as CEE 483).
