Donald Bahnfleth has had a varied career-research professor, editorial director of Heating/Piping/Air Conditioning magazine, and consulting engineer. He has written over 30 articles and has given speeches all over the world. In 1985, he became president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE). As president he emphasized research efforts in energy use, indoor air quality, and fire and smoke control. He has been a driving force in opening up opportunities for women and minorities in all ASHRAE activities. In addition, he has been outstanding in planning and directing complex heating, ventilating, and air conditioning projects.
