Prospective Undergraduates

Undergraduate programs at the College of Engineering at Illinois are consistently ranked among the top five nationally. At Illinois, we are devoted to the creation of new knowledge through research, and to the development of the next generation of engineering leaders through education.

An emphasis on engineering science and experiential learning provides for an exceptional technical education that prepares students to excel in many different professional careers. Our students are encouraged to apply skills learned inside the classroom to projects and activities outside the classroom.

A few of these activities that made the news last year included:

  • collaborating with a campus research team working on technologies for detecting and solving water pollution problems
  • developing innovative ideas with commercial potential, such as a portable device for accessing medical records
  • traveling abroad to see construction projects
  • studying abroad on a full-merit research scholarship
  • organizing a service project to bring water to an African community
  • designing and building a house for the national Solar Decathlon showcasing energy-conserving technology and engineering ingenuity
  • testing skills in a student team competition known as the "Battle of the Brains" in Sweden
